These options will probably include NASCAR and GP2...
M5ridero - "I don't remember the last time be passed a competitive car". I do LOL He passed 4 cars in 1 lap during a wet 2008 British GP. Those drivers included Raikonnen, Kovalainen, Alonso and Trulli. Heidfeld is not the best, but he is another consistant reliable driver similar to Barrichello.
Heidfeld is a stiff and hasn't earned a quality finish w/ HIS driving (not luck) for years. All you've got to do to pass him is sit on his tail until he makes a mistake. I don't remember the last time he passed a competitive car. Think BMW regrets not dumping him when they had VETTEL!? Kubica deserves a better car. Heidfeld does not.
You are right about that scrumpyjack. He could sure use a new doo.
NO options is the word!
He could be the perfect Ferrari driver with Alonso. His title hopes will flush down the toilette when he gets outdrive by Fernando, and then would settle for second driver.
marekj - yes, his qualifying was awful for part of last year, i was pointing out that this year he has been carrying around truckloads of fuel (certainly more than Kubica) for most races this year, apart from the last one.
Nick is a good but not great driver. I can't help but wonder what teams would actually consider signing him that are better than BMW?? My guess is that BMW are looking to sign Rosberg, and Heidfeld will end up at Williams, STR, or Force India, or maybe replace Piquet at Renault. Renault is going to have a killer car next year so they'll want a top driver to replace Alonso. Heidfeld is just not a world champion caliber driver and the whole paddock knows it. Or maybe he'll end up at one of the new teams? Let's not forget them! I'm sure they could use a driver with his know-how and experience since they won't really be competitive for a few years.
He is a better Racer than Kubica, it would be a shame to loose him.
So he wants to be World Champion,I wondered why he was doing it.
With stories like this, it is hard to tell if the driver is really disappointed with his current team, or if the team is disappointed with the driver. If Nick does move, where will he go ? Nico Rosebeg faces the same problem. Jumping from one bad team to another does nothing for their championship aspirations.
number 2 to alonso at ferrari perhaps??
I've considered his otions & they don't look good.
outrungod - "and despite his rubbish qualifying (because of large fuel loads normally)" - last year he had a problems to enter Q3, so what kind of large fuel loads are you talking about???
WE'LL SEE HIM IN A wILLIAMS AGAIN.....WATCH THIS SPACE
"Heidfeld considering his options" now that is news, I didn't realise he had any
Your Beard is messing with the aerodynamics of the car, Have a shave and you might do better
Nick is a great driver. He is always in a "race" no matter where he is in the pack.
An excellent second driver!
Looking at that picture he needs a new hair stylist as well as a new car!
Maybe time for him to get a seat at McLaren .Was test driver there before now with much more experience, which is where McLaren are lacking.
"Still want to be World Champion" - perhaps a bit optimistic. Although he isn't really champion material, there are many worse drivers out there - Heidi would be a perfect team-mate for a fast but inexperienced/inconsistant driver in any of the mid-field teams...
He'll do a much better job than Heikki in a McLaren. Being german, it'll keep the Mercedes boys in the team more than happy. Mclaren can then focus on Lewis's Championship.
here's an option ..... RETIRE !!
His suggestion that drivers are staying until they are 38 or 39 is a bit optimistic. In the early '90s Mansell, Prost, Piquet and Patrese all managed to hang on until they were 39, but the trend today seems to be for ever younger drivers.
Nick's not a championship driver, but he makes a good constructor's championship 2nd driver because he usually finishes, and despite his rubbish qualifying (because of large fuel loads normally), he is good at overtaking and usually makes up a few places over a race.... any teams need a decent 2nd driver, or one of the new teams need an experienced hand?

Nerdace, Oh, you mean because Heidfeld had the proper tires on for the conditions while the cars he passed, "in the wet" didn't? Again, this is luck and/or proper race strategy, not driver ability. I'd love to see a chart of the number of times he's lost vs gained positions. I bet its 9:1, at least.
