Spa-Francorchamps is set to remain on the F1 calendar for the next three seasons after reaching an "agreement in principle" with Bernie Ecclestone.

With finances proving a problem for much of Europe, the Belgian GP had considered alternating with France, who were keen to return to the calendar.

However, a change in the French government led to those talks breaking down and Spa forging ahead on their own.

The Minister of Economy of Wallonia, Jean-Claude Marcourt, has revealed that Spa has reached an "agreement in principle" with Ecclestone to continue hosting the grand prix for a further three years until 2015.

"We were able to negotiate a contract extension for the years 2013, 2014 and 2015, where there will be the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps in Wallonia," Marcourt told public broadcaster RTBF.

"What I wanted to do was to reduce the size of the expenditure budget for the Walloon region and I would say we have accomplished the mission.

"There was no way we could continue to lose as much money as we have been."
