Schumi: One to forget

Michael Schumacher admits it was a day when what could go wrong did go wrong as he suffered his sixth retirement of this season in Hungary.

Having qualified down in 17th place after sorely lacking pace on Saturday, the German's weekend went from bad to worse at the start of Sunday's Hungarian GP.

With the start aborted due to a suspected problem with the lights, the drivers were kept on the grid longer than normal before being sent off on a second installation lap.

Schumacher never made that lap as he turned his engine off in the long wait. That meant he had to start from the pit lane, which he did but he was back in the pits soon after when he suffered a puncture. To add to his woes, during his time in the pits the German was also caught speeding and was slapped with a penalty.

"Today was obviously one of those races that you will not look back at for very long," he admitted.

"Our engine temperatures were very high before the start, and when the yellow lights came on, I switched the engine off. After I had started from the pit lane, I picked up a penalty and then a puncture.

"So all in all, the beginning of the race was not very pleasant for us. Everything you do not need came together."

His day eventually came to an end on lap 61 of the grand prix when the Mercedes driver pulled into the pits, parking his W03.

"We did not have full telemetry before the start and during the period of overheating, and this is why we finally decided to retire so as not risk any damage which might make us suffer in the next race. Now we can now check the car properly before the break and prior to Spa."

He added: "This weekend is not one to remember, but then there are weekends like this which you can only accept. I am sure we will be looking much better in the next races to come."
