Button: We need to pull together

Jenson Button has called on everyone at McLaren to "pull together" after a difficult British Grand Prix weekend.

The 2009 World Champion started 16th on the grid and then finished down in P10 while Lewis Hamilton didn't do much better as he finished two places ahead of his team-mate in eighth.

The 32-year-old admits that his MP4-27 just never had the pace to challenge for higher places up the grid at Silverstone.

"There wasn't a point in the race when we didn't have the right strategy but we were surprised to be that far down," he told BBC Sport.

"Our car doesn't feel that bad so rival cars must be very, very good. It's a little bit frustrating for Lewis and myself, we have to pull together and make some progress."

He added: "It's very disappointing in front of the home crowd. We wanted to put on a better show today and it's a shame we didn't. We don't seem to be exceptionally strong at the moment and here we thought we would be but we can fight through this."

It has been a struggle for Button the past few months as he has picked up only seven points in the last six races.

He concedes that he was off the pace in previous grands prix, but feels the team are starting to go backwards.

"I have had a couple of bad weekends personally," he said.

"We have tried different things with the car and they haven't worked. Now we just generally don't have the pace. Hopefully we can sort it out sooner rather than later. A team like McLaren will do all they can to get back to winning ways."
