'Front wing mounting led to Nakajima's shunt'

Saturday 2nd February 2008

Williams brought their first day of testing at Barcelona to a premature halt on Friday after Kazuki Nakajima crashed heavily into the barriers.

The Japanese driver, who was behind the wheel of the team's new FW30, went off the track and slammed into the barriers at high-speed after the gravel failed to slow his car down.

In order to ensure that the same fate didn't befall his team-mate Nico Rosberg, Williams opted to call it a day as they investigated the crash.

According to the team, the early findings suggested that it was a front wing mounting problem and not driver error that caused the crash.

"It was related to a front wing mounting issue which will be fixed and the car will be running again tomorrow (Saturday)," a team spokesman told Reuters.

As for Nakajima, the spokesman confirmed that "he's fine" following his accident.
