Heidfeld: I like driving in the rain

Friday 8th August 2008

Nick Heidfeld could do with a few wet races before this season ends, admitting that he loves racing in the rain.

The German's last podium finish in F1 came three races ago when he finished second in the wet British GP, one of only a few drivers who managed to get through the grand prix without a single off-track moment.

He followed that performance up with another points-finish in Germany where he ended in fourth place, once again proving his worth in the wet.

"I like driving in the rain," Heidfeld told BMW's website.

"Even in my karting days I liked driving in the rain best. My brother Sven and I always preferred to go out on the track when it wasn't that full - and that used to be the case when it was raining. And in Germany the rain falls all too often.

"You have to opt for a positive approach. If you say: 'Damn, it's raining,' you are tense right from the start. And if you make a minor mistake with this approach, you tend to say, 'I knew this would happen.'

"But if you like racing in the wet, you won't even begin thinking about these kind of issues."
