BMW look set to retain Kubica

Thursday 15th May 2008

Mario Theissen isn't worried that rival outfits will try poach Robert Kubica after the Polish driver's impressive start to the season.

Kubica is out of contract with BMW at the end of this season, although the former German outfit does reportedly have a one-year option on their Polish star.

Reports have therefore begun to emerge that other teams are expressing an interest in him with both Ferrari and Renault rumoured to have already made enquiries.

However, BMW team boss Theissen isn't fazed about Kubica's quick start to the season, which includes one pole position and three podium finishes, making him a target for other teams.

"No," Theissen told Autosport when asked if he was worried that other teams would try poach Kubica.

"When we took him, we expected him to be strong. We'll announce next year's drivers in the summer."

BMW are thought to have until September to use their option on Kubica.
